Chameleon

Whilst I was in Brighton I went to the Farica gallery with Chameleon by Tina Gonsalves which was a weird piece of art as it was peoples faces on screens around the room copying your mood as you look in the cameras.
The concept behind this was that it interacts with the audience and the craft was that it is a video projected onto a little screen with a camera by the side of it which took 12 points of your face to decide what mood you were in and then the image on the screen would copy it.

Girl Chewing Gum - John Smith

Recently I have viewed the video "Girl Chewing Gum" by John Smith which has the concept of giving random people walking past in the street a position in the video as if they are real characters. The director tries to deceive the audience into thinking that he is there at the scene.
The craft is that the narrator seems like he is there at the scene but actually it is later revealed that he is in a field a couple of miles away so he has filmed a scene then reviewed it and has written a script for that particular scene.

Muto by Blu

I recently viewed Muto by blu which is a stop frame animation made on the streets by simply spray painting an image on the walls there was a lot of craft involved with this video because of it all being painted and then picture taken. The concept behind this video could be seen as birth, death and re birth.

Chapter 3

After viewing Material gestures by Paul McCarthy at Tate modern I realised that it didn't have a structure to it and there was no beginning, middle and end. This video is non narrative because i could view the video at any point. I also viewed koyaanisqatsi which has a narrative because there was some thing that happened in the beginning, middle and end. If i didn't watch the whole film then it wouldn't have made any sense. I don't think that it is essential to have a structure because they both have a meaning but it doesn't change wether there is a narrative or not because I don't usually notice if there is one.

Chapter Two

The use of technology can affect the product when it was made because if it was made in 1950's then there was good equipment and technology but it was only good for then now there is much better equipment out so they wouldnt have been able to do stop frame animation on computers or use some modern techniques. The equipment was good for the time, but if you used it now then it wouldn't be good compared to the stuff we use today. When something was made they might have been using the latest technology but the wouldn't choose to use that stuff now because there is much better equipment now and there is more techniques now.

Chapter Six

The different reactions from audiences is good to look at because every ones reaction is very different sometimes they think it is a good piece and really positive about it but then the next person might be really negative about it and not like it. I personally didn't get the meaning of this "art" but I dont think it mattered because I don't think any one got the meaning.
If the artist did have a meaning then he didn't make it very obvious.

After viewing Paul Mc Carthy's "art" at tate the people coming out had very different opinions about the work some people looked disgusted and disturbed by seeing these vodeos, but then other people like it and think that it is good art.

Chapter One.

I have recently viewed three different artists work Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio, Girl chewing gum by John Smith and Andy Huang's Doll Face.

Koyaanisqatsi and Girl chewing gum can be linked by the non diagetic sound with the narrative.
Doll face uses the concept of perception of the celebrity world when a doll lookes up to the celebrity on the tele looking all perfect who she wants to be like, but koyaanisqatsi uses the perception of the real world with the contrast between new and old and fast and slow.

There isn't a lot of technology used it girl chewing gum because its just a camera shot with a voice over which was good technology at the time, but in doll face there is a lot of stop frame animation which would have taken a lot longer to make.
Although girl chewing gum and koyaanisqatsi are both old they are both very different with koyaanisqatsi using good colour but girl chewing gum using black and white but the use of colour simply comes down to godfrey reggio having more money and being able to use money.

Gisele Kerozene - Jan Kounen

After watching this weird video by Jan Kounen i was surprised at how strange it is because it's not every day that you watch a video with two withces chasing each other on broom sticks around Paris. There is a lot of craft behind this video because it is a lot of stop frame animation and would have taken ages to make it. I can't think about concept behind it so i don't think there is one.
