Chapter 3

After viewing Material gestures by Paul McCarthy at Tate modern I realised that it didn't have a structure to it and there was no beginning, middle and end. This video is non narrative because i could view the video at any point. I also viewed koyaanisqatsi which has a narrative because there was some thing that happened in the beginning, middle and end. If i didn't watch the whole film then it wouldn't have made any sense. I don't think that it is essential to have a structure because they both have a meaning but it doesn't change wether there is a narrative or not because I don't usually notice if there is one.

  1. Do you think the meaning to you the audience is altered by the fact that there is or not a narrative? Remember you often watch narrative based films but are less likely to sit through a non-narrative film.
